In Summer 2017, Coltart Contracts teamed up with South Ayrshire Council to deliver a major playground extension at Annbank Primary School. Over July and August, the contract covered a wide range of works: site clearance, new drainage, paving and footpaths, kerbing, play equipment installation, outdoor classroom, tree planting, and much more. The goal was to provide a safe, engaging, and functional outdoor learning and play area for pupils.
We began with thorough site preparation and clearance to ensure a clean, level foundation. A new drainage system was installed to manage rainfall and maintain safety. The design integrated both soft and hard landscaping — from turfing, mulching, and tree planting to kerbing, fencing, planter construction, and electrical works. Importantly, we included play markings and built an outdoor classroom, balancing durability with educational and recreational features, while coordinating closely with the school and council throughout.

The revitalised playground now offers Annbank pupils an expanded, modern outdoor space that supports both learning and play. All works were completed within the tight midsummer schedule set by the Council, demonstrating our ability to deliver on time. The installation of quality drainage and durable materials means low maintenance and safer use year-round. The result is a welcoming, functional, and visually appealing environment that enhances the school grounds and community.
